Acheter dogwifhat depuis la France, version rigoureuse

France's PSAN registration era ended on 1 July 2026, so the first job is checking MiCA status. After that, SEPA, a wallet and the 2086 tax form.

France has had crypto rules for longer than most countries, and the vocabulary can be confusing: PSAN, agrement, PSCA, CASP, MiCA. The short version for an October 2026 buyer is this: the old French registration regime has expired, the European MiCA regime has replaced it, and your first job is to confirm that the platform you pick holds a MiCA authorisation. This page is built as a short checklist you can follow in order. If you want the global basics first, read how to buy WIF.

The coin itself: dogwifhat (WIF) is a Solana meme token with a Shiba Inu in a pink knitted hat. It has no native staking, an anonymous community-driven team and a wild price history (ATH $4.83 on 31 March 2024; ATL $0.00155464 on 12 December 2023, per CoinGecko). Nothing below is a recommendation to buy it.

Step 1: understand the regime change (PSAN to MiCA)

Before MiCA, French providers had to register with the AMF as PSAN (prestataires de services sur actifs numeriques), a registration focused on anti-money-laundering, with an optional fuller "agrement". The EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) started applying to crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) on 30 December 2024. MiCA allowed member states to let existing national providers carry on for up to 18 months; France used the maximum, so the transitional period ended on 1 July 2026.

What that means for you in practice:

  • Platforms without a MiCA authorisation should no longer be serving French customers. The AMF publicly reminded providers about the deadline and, according to French trade press, said it would monitor wind-down plans of firms that did not obtain authorisation.
  • Firms that did get authorised are listed by the AMF (for French entities) and in ESMA's central register (for the whole EU).
  • Non-French firms authorised in another EU country can serve France through the EU passport. So "not in the AMF list" does not automatically mean "not allowed"; it means check ESMA's register.

Several commentary sources we read are written by advisers or vendors and some predate the deadline; use them for background only. The AMF's MiCA page and ESMA's register are the sources that count. We could not retrieve the AMF announcements directly, so we have not quoted them.

A check that takes two minutes. Find the legal entity in the platform's legal notice (mentions legales). Search that exact name in the AMF's list and in ESMA's register. Then verify the services listed (conservation, exchange against funds, execution of orders) match what you plan to do.

Step 2: pick a platform from the verified side

Naming a platform here is not endorsing it, and licensing details change, so confirm everything yourself.

Coinhouse. A Paris-based service whose AMF register entry we located. French trade press and register summaries report that it obtained its MiCA authorisation from the AMF on 7 May 2026. It describes services such as custody, exchange between crypto and funds, and order execution. Whether WIF is on its asset list is something we could not verify; its catalogue has traditionally been more selective than global exchanges.

Kraken. A global exchange with a large European client base. Secondary sources say it holds MiCA authorisation through Ireland's central bank (and another group entity in Luxembourg) and serves France via the passport. Kraken's own WIF buy page advertises numerous WIF pairs and a Convert tool, and supports euro, but we could not confirm a WIF/EUR pair specifically. See our Kraken review.

Bitpanda. An Austria-based broker with a public dogwifhat page that describes a simple register, verify, deposit, buy flow. Commentators say it is authorised via Austria's FMA and serves France through the passport. We could not verify a French-specific filing. See our Bitpanda review.

Paymium and others. Paymium is a French exchange historically focused on bitcoin; we have no evidence WIF is available, and we did not verify its current MiCA status. Treat it as a "check the register" name, not a WIF route.

Binance. Press reports from June-July 2026 say Binance stopped serving EU users at the deadline for lack of an EU authorisation and was seeking one in France. We could not confirm this from a primary source, so look at Binance's own notices and the registers. If you still hold funds on any platform that lost its authorisation, withdraw them to your own wallet by following that platform's wind-down instructions.

CEX.IO. A long-running exchange (founded 2013) that holds licences or registrations in several jurisdictions. Its legal page tells you which entity serves which country and whether France is covered, so verify before opening an account.

Step 3: euros in by SEPA virement

SEPA is the default route and normally the cheapest. A few French-bank realities:

  • Virement instantane arrives within seconds if both your bank and the platform support it. Some neobanks and traditional banks offer it free, others charge; check.
  • Account in your name. Platforms refuse transfers from joint accounts of third parties or from accounts under another name.
  • Bank friction. Some banks add questions or delays on transfers to crypto platforms. Having a few details ready (platform name, purpose) avoids misunderstandings.
  • Card payments are quick but usually carry higher fees than SEPA. Compare the final quoted euro amount, not the label "0% fee".
  • No-name intermediaries. Anyone who asks you to send euros to a personal IBAN for "OTC WIF" is almost certainly a scammer.

Use our WIF to euro calculator as a yardstick: if an exchange's quote is far away from the live rate after fees, find out why. If WIF/EUR is not available, you can buy SOL or USDC with euros, then swap to WIF on a platform or wallet that supports it. Remember tax consequences: see below.

Step 4: French tax basics (flat tax, 305 euros and form 2086)

General information, not tax advice. The authority is the DGFiP at impots.gouv.fr; a chartered accountant (expert-comptable) is useful if you trade frequently.

From the tax site and the form 2086 notice:

  • Regime. Occasional disposals of digital assets by individuals fall under a specific regime. The gain is taxed at 12.8 percent income tax plus social contributions; the commonly quoted total is 30 percent (the "flat tax", PFU). You can opt for the progressive income-tax scale instead by ticking the relevant box on your return (this choice applies to the whole household).
  • 305 euro threshold. If the total of your sale prices in the year (not gains) does not exceed 305 euros, the disposals are exempt. Above it, tax applies from the first euro of gain.
  • What triggers the tax. Converting crypto into euros or another currency, or using crypto to buy goods or services. Under the rules as presented by the authority, a swap from one crypto to another is treated as a deferral, not a taxable event, so swapping SOL for WIF is not a disposal on its own.
  • How the gain is computed. France uses a portfolio method: for each taxable sale, the gain is the sale price minus a proportional share of the total acquisition cost of your whole portfolio, taking into account the global value of the portfolio at the moment of sale. This is why a clean record of every euro in and every euro out matters, even if no sale has happened yet.
  • Forms. You compute the gain on form 2086 and carry the result to your income tax return (the 3AN box is cited for gains; 3CN for the progressive-scale option). Check the current-year notice.
  • Losses. Per the summaries we read, capital losses on crypto can only be set against crypto gains of the same year and do not carry forward.
  • Foreign accounts. Accounts with platforms established outside France have to be declared (form 3916-bis). Check whether the platform you use is covered.

An illustrative example, with made-up numbers: you invest 2,000 euros in total across your portfolio, and later sell WIF worth 500 euros when your whole portfolio is worth 5,000 euros. The acquisition-cost share is 2,000 x (500 / 5,000) = 200 euros, so the gain is 300 euros, taxed at roughly 30 percent, about 90 euros. Real cases involve fees and several sales, so use the official method and tools.

Because the rate and details (including social-contribution rates) can change with each finance law, read the current notice before filing instead of relying on this page.

Step 5: self-custody and the mint address

WIF is a Solana SPL token. For anything you do not plan to sell soon, a self-custody wallet such as Solflare reduces counterparty risk. Our wallet guide explains seed phrases and fees. Before you send or receive, compare the token's mint address against the one on our contract address page, because copycat tokens use the same name and logo. Keep the seed phrase on paper offline.

A French-specific tip: if you move coins between your own platform account and your own wallet, document the transfers. It does not create a taxable event by itself, but an exchange export plus a short note ("transfer to own wallet, address X") will save you time when preparing form 2086.

Scams in French

  • "Cryptos: 5 percent par semaine". Sites and Telegram groups promise returns. WIF has no native staking; see WIF staking and earning.
  • Fake AMF warnings or "recovery" firms. After a loss, victims are contacted by "recovery" services demanding an advance fee, sometimes with fake official letters. The AMF publishes blacklists of unauthorised sites; real regulators do not charge to recover funds.
  • Cloned platforms advertised on social networks, using logos of known exchanges and fake MiCA numbers. Verify the entity in the registers.
  • Romance and "coach" scams that move the conversation to messaging apps and push deposits. Stop at that point.
  • Phishing e-mail and SMS ("votre compte sera suspendu"). Log in via the official app only.

What a sensible first purchase looks like

Pick a MiCA-authorised platform, test a small SEPA deposit and one withdrawal to your own wallet, keep a spreadsheet of euro amounts and dates from day one, and decide in advance how much of your savings you are willing to see go to zero. A meme coin like WIF can fall 80 percent in weeks; do not let the dog in the hat dictate your budget. And remember that the regulatory map keeps shifting: check the AMF and ESMA pages again before each new platform you try.

Quick answers

Is it legal to buy WIF in France?

Yes, individuals can buy crypto-assets in France. The platforms are regulated: the old PSAN registration with the AMF was a transitional regime that ended on 1 July 2026, and since then providers need MiCA authorisation as crypto-asset service providers.

How do I check that a platform is allowed in France?

Search the exact legal entity on the AMF's lists and on ESMA's MiCA CASP register. Authorised firms from other EU countries can serve France through the passport, so the AMF list is not the only place to look.

How are WIF gains taxed in France?

For occasional individual sellers, gains on crypto disposals are generally taxed at a flat 12.8 percent income tax plus social contributions, commonly summarised as 30 percent, or you can opt for the progressive scale. Sales totalling 305 euros or less in a year are exempt. General information only.

Is swapping crypto for crypto taxable in France?

Under the rules as described by the tax authority, exchanges between crypto-assets are not a taxable event by themselves; the taxable event is the conversion to euros or the purchase of goods or services. The gain is computed with a portfolio method, so keep full records.

Do I have to declare my exchange account?

Yes, accounts held abroad, including crypto platform accounts opened outside France, must be declared (form 3916-bis). Check the current requirement on impots.gouv.fr, because a missed declaration can carry penalties.

Can I buy WIF with a card or SEPA?

SEPA bank transfer is typically cheapest at EU platforms; card payments cost more. Instant SEPA may arrive in seconds. Always check the platform's current fee page and the final quote.
