If you live in the Netherlands and want dogwifhat for euros, Bitvavo is probably the first exchange a friend will mention. It is Dutch, it is built around iDEAL and SEPA, and the app is pleasantly dull in the way a finance app should be. This review looks at it from one angle only: is it a sensible place to buy and hold a Solana memecoin like WIF? It is an independent opinion, not a recommendation to buy anything, and nothing here is investment advice.
Bottom line: for euro-based buyers in the Netherlands and most of the EU, Bitvavo is a solid, low-fuss on-ramp. The things to watch are how you fund the purchase (iDEAL and SEPA are cheap, cards are not), whether WIF is tradable in your app on the day, and the usual memecoin volatility.
Who Bitvavo is for
Bitvavo suits you if you want to pay in euros, you are happy with a regulated European company holding your account, and you would like an order book rather than a one-tap "buy" button with a hidden markup. Dutch residents get the smoothest experience because iDEAL is a first-class payment method. Our guide to buying WIF in the Netherlands covers the local side (tax pointers, banks, common pitfalls), and this page stays on the exchange itself.
It is a worse fit if you want derivatives, a huge range of tiny-cap tokens, or a US-style dollar account. If you are outside the EEA, check whether Bitvavo accepts customers from your country before you start.
Regulatory status: what we could verify
Bitvavo's own MiCA disclaimer says Bitvavo is authorised as a crypto-asset service provider by the Dutch financial markets regulator, the AFM, and uses that authorisation to serve other EU countries. We could cross-check that from a second official source: the French AMF lists Bitvavo B.V. on its CASP white list as a Dutch-licensed provider serving France under passporting, for custody, trading platform and transfer services. A third-party mirror of the ESMA interim register showed the same company with an authorisation date in June 2025.
Two caveats, because precision matters here:
- We could not open the AFM's own register entry from our tools, so we cannot quote the exact date or the complete service scope from the primary source. Check the AFM registers and the ESMA interim MiCA register yourself.
- Authorisation means the company is supervised and has to meet capital, custody and conduct rules. It does not make WIF safe, and it does not protect you from price losses.
Is WIF listed on Bitvavo?
Bitvavo runs a dogwifhat page that turned up in our searches with a live euro price and a "Buy dogwifhat" button, and it described the market as MiCAR-licensed. Bitvavo's website blocked our automated fetch (HTTP 403), so we could not read the page ourselves end to end. Treat that as "very likely listed, verify in the app". Listings can be removed: another exchange we saw, Bitfinex, announced it stopped trading WIF in November 2025. We did not find Bitvavo's date of first listing.
What it costs, in the order you will meet the costs
The Bitvavo fee page is the authority, and we read its published structure through search snippets because direct access was blocked. Treat the numbers as "as of October 2026, check the live page".
| Step | What you pay | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fund by iDEAL or SEPA | No Bitvavo fee, per its learning centre | Your bank may still apply its own rules |
| Fund by card or PayPal | Higher; reviews report about 1% and 2% | Verify before using, limits apply |
| Buy WIF (EUR market) | Starts at 0.15% maker, 0.25% taker | Falls with 30-day volume tiers |
| Withdraw WIF to a wallet | Network fee per asset, plus a minimum | Listed in the withdrawal table |
| Withdraw euros | Reported free via SEPA by one comparison site | We could not confirm on Bitvavo's page |
The practical lesson: placing a limit order that waits on the book (maker) is cheaper than a market order (taker), and the gap between the two is bigger than most people expect. The spread between buy and sell price on a memecoin can also dwarf the fee, so look at the order book depth for WIF/EUR before you tap anything. A thin book plus a market order is the classic way to lose 1-2% instantly.
Deposits, withdrawals and limits
Euro in: iDEAL, SEPA transfer, and card or PayPal for small top-ups. Crypto in: you can also deposit coins from another wallet or exchange. Euro out: SEPA to your own bank account. Crypto out: to any external address on a supported network, with a per-asset fee and minimum.
Daily and monthly limits depend on your verification level and are shown in your account, so we are not quoting numbers that could be stale. If you plan a larger purchase, finish the higher verification level ahead of time rather than discovering the cap mid-trade.
KYC and account safety
Expect full identity verification before you can deposit or trade: ID document, selfie or video check, and in some cases questions about source of funds for larger amounts. That is normal for a MiCA-licensed firm and it is a feature, not a bug, when you are trying to avoid anonymous platforms. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app or a hardware key, not just SMS, and use a unique password. Bitvavo is a custodial exchange, so anything you keep there depends on the company staying solvent and on your account staying secure.
For anything you plan to hold for months, consider moving WIF to your own wallet. Our wallet guide explains the Solana options, and our safety overview covers the token risks.
Pros and cons
Good
- Euro-native, iDEAL and SEPA friendly
- MiCA authorisation claimed by Bitvavo and visible on the French AMF list
- Order book with maker and taker pricing
- Simple app, quick onboarding
- Free crypto deposits, external withdrawals supported
Watch out
- WIF listing is subject to change; confirm in-app
- Card and PayPal funding cost noticeably more
- Third-party fee tables disagree, so only trust the live page
- Custodial: not your keys
- Smaller product set than global giants
The honest drawbacks
Bitvavo does not stake WIF (the token has no native staking), so do not expect any yield. It is also not the place to chase obscure Solana tokens that have not been through a listing review. If WIF is delisted, you will be told to withdraw or sell within a deadline, and you have to act. Finally, Bitvavo's user base skews Dutch and European: if you travel or move abroad, access rules can change.
How to buy WIF on Bitvavo, step by step
- Create an account on bitvavo.com or in the official app. Check the address before you type credentials.
- Complete identity verification and enable authenticator-based 2FA.
- Deposit euros by iDEAL or SEPA. Skip cards unless you need speed.
- Search for "WIF" or "dogwifhat". If it does not show up, stop here and see the alternatives below.
- Open the WIF/EUR market, look at the order book depth, and place a limit order near the best price. Use a market order only for small amounts.
- Optionally withdraw to your own Solana wallet. Test with a small amount and double-check the address against the WIF contract address logic: always confirm the network is Solana.

Alternatives worth a look
If Bitvavo is not available to you, or WIF is missing there, our where to buy WIF page compares the main routes, and the exchanges hub links every review in this series. A long-running alternative is CEX.IO, which is worth a read in our CEX.IO review; check its legal page and the relevant regulator registers for your country before using it.
Want a second option to compare against Bitvavo's price?
Start with WIF âNone of this is a promise that WIF will go anywhere. It is a volatile memecoin: only use money you can afford to lose, and re-check fees, limits and listings on the official pages before you press buy.
Quick answers
Is Bitvavo safe and regulated?
Bitvavo says it is authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA by the Dutch AFM, and the French AMF also lists Bitvavo B.V. as a passported provider. Always confirm on the AFM and ESMA registers yourself, because licences can change.
Can I buy WIF on Bitvavo with iDEAL?
Bitvavo supports iDEAL for euro deposits and its learning centre says iDEAL and SEPA deposits carry no Bitvavo fee. Once euros land in your account you can buy WIF, if the asset is still listed. Check the WIF page in the app first.
What are Bitvavo's trading fees?
Bitvavo's fee page starts at 0.15 percent maker and 0.25 percent taker on euro markets, falling with 30-day volume. Card and PayPal funding cost more. Fees change, so read the live fee page before you trade.
Does Bitvavo list WIF?
Bitvavo has a dogwifhat product page that appeared in our search results, advertising a buy button and euro pricing. Its servers blocked our automated check, so open the app and search WIF to confirm it is tradable for you today.
Can I send WIF from Bitvavo to my own wallet?
Bitvavo lets you withdraw crypto to an external address, with a per-asset network fee and minimum shown on its fee page. Use a Solana wallet address and send a small test amount first.
